About the event

Enjoy singing folk songs? Want to sing in a casual, small group?

A Folk Song Circle hosted by Debbie Gathmann

We will have folk singing books available (Rise Up Singing books 1 and 2) but people can bring in songs they would like to try. The goal is to have fun, learn a few new songs, and enjoy the time together.  If you have a guitar and want to bring it, great, but we can certainly sing without any instrument backing us up. Sometimes we will sound great and sometimes we will struggle, but the point of this is to have a relaxing, musical time.

Songs suggestions:

Bells of Norwich: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9XqdM3qkc8

The Sally Gardens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfnQkLS6Amg (There are lots of non-classical versions, too)

THe Garden Round ("The Chickens Get Into the Tomatoes") -- no tune, just rhythm:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKwJIy-Vjfk  (This one only has 3 of the four parts, and doesn't do it as a round, but is great for learning the  rhythm).  The four parts, all in the same beat: the CHICKens are INto the TO MA TOES! (2x) EVen the RABbits inHIBit their HABits when CARrots Are Green! (2x) Squash! Squash! Squash! Squash! (2x; syncopated); Hedge HOOOOOOOG!  HedgeHOOOOOOG! HedgeHOOOOOOOOG! HEDGE-HOG! (2x).

At the Gate of HEaven (Lullaby):  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQ6eXO_Bg3w (Sung in Spansih but has English translation and gives the tune)

O Can ye Sew Cushions? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rNZBED858Y   Jean Redpath.  (Felicity Lott has a lovely version, but again, classical.)

There Was an Old Man Who Lived in the Wood:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3x0BbWKuIQ

Sweetheart Out a Hunting:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=555dHzVQWsE

Tutu Maramba:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgjKl8iQYUU
